Coral Triangle

The Coral Triangle is the global centre of marine biodiversity. It covers an area of 5.7 million km2. It is the planet’s richest centre of marine life and coral diversity, with over 6’000 species of fish and ¾ of the world’s coral species.
The area extents from the Philippines to Indonesia, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, Timor Leste and the Solomon Islands.
Resources from the area sustain more than 120 million people living here. Overfishing and destructive fishing, unsustainable tourism, climate change and impacts of urbanization are harming this sensitive and outstanding ecosystem.
